So, no wheels at all? Ah, who am I kidding? There may be some skating, maybe a little...OK a lot. Getting roller girls and boys to hang up their skates for a whole month is a hard push..luckily Plymouth has THE best outdoor skating, I'm just going to say it...in the WORLD!! Not only is there oodles of beautiful, skateble concrete, an incline for some burning quad action, but helpfully there are moving obstacles in the form of children and dogs to help us with those razor sharp reactions and agility drills. The greatest feature of this outdoor skating haven is the view, as you glide along on your chosen method of transport: quads, penny, long or hover board, you may believe you are on a tropical island as you gaze out over azure waters. And most special of all is the view of our very secret island of Drake, I shouldn't really be telling you this but PCRG's ambitious plans for the occupation of said Island are coming along nicely, just call us The Secret 26!
Anyone who has been fortunate enough to visit Plym Town will know the location I describe is the famous hoe, featuring the very lighthouse that we rock on our bouting vests, Smeatons Tower, thanks to Roller Derby City . As a bunch of fearless fighters for female freedom we would normally object most fiercely to the H word but hell we are proud to be Plymouth Hoes.
Ah, summer plans....almost makes you want to sing, dance and wear pastels...almost.
During our 'break', we will be hosting the most spectacular bout yet... Jukes' Jamboree in tribute to the gorgeous Jukes who really did spread a little sunshine everywhere she went. This is so special it is hard to describe. When it was suggested to Jukes she was excited, and everyone who knew her can imagine she had some ideas to contribute! She wanted yellow, purple, vintage and her two teams, Plymouth and Cornwall to go head to head in a friendly again. As well as fulfilling this wish we are raising money for Macmillan to contribute to the amazing job they do in supporting people with cancer and their loved ones. Tickets are still on sale on our website www.plymouthcityrollergirls.co.uk/tickets. For the love of yellow you do not want to miss this!
I'm beginning to think we need a lesson in the meaning of taking a break....there is just too much fun to have and you know you just can't keep a great derby team down!
We'll be back on a track near you, ok actually us, in September to continue our Heartlands mission.
This is Bella Trips reporting from PCRG HQ, over and out.
