Our experience of Bristol Harbour Harlots has been piecemeal, we have watched many of their games and played our first ever game against their B-Team. We invited them to compete in a one-day tournament called Demolition Derby in March in which they came 3rd - a result I am sure has given them a big bag of motivation.
The team we played against on Saturday 4th August was not the team we saw in March. It is clear that appointing a full time bench manager has paid off for them. They simply outclassed us. Penalties resulting in power jams in their favour, their ability to knock our jammers 3-4ft in the air and recycling their blocking to the front constantly wore us down.
It was hard fought and we never gave up - I am proud of my team for their gritty endurance and can-do attitude throughout. The first half seemed to be going on for an indeterminate amount of time, and it was only after the bout had finished that we were informed our suspicions were confirmed - the Jam Timer had overrun the first half by 15 minutes! We had two skaters sustain injuries - Clarazyfists sustained a beauty of a bruise to her knee (her entire knee!) and Dangermau5's wheel became entangled in the track tape which not only scared the entire team "Has she broken her ANKLE?!?!" but also resulted in a 5 minute time out for the track to be relaid. Through all of this we remained mentally strong and determined. One thing is for certain, next time we play Bristol, the score will be much much closer.
